H-E-B is opening its largest ever ecommerce fulfillment center in Katy, Texas. Measuring more than 100,000 square feet, it is twice the size of its typical fulfillment centers and aims to provide more capacity, greater efficiency, and better service for digital and in-store customers.

The grocer said that the project further expands its commitment to integrate technology that drives omnichannel growth. The fulfillment center is H-E-B’s first standalone location, and it will support curbside and home delivery orders across the Houston, Texas, area.

The facility marks H-E-B’s seventh ecommerce fulfillment center it has opened since 2018 and by the end of next year, the company looks to open additional facilities across the state to continue expansion plans throughout Texas.
Kedar Patel, H-E-B group vice president of ecommerce, said that the Houston area is one of the largest markets for the company. The new facility will employ more than 300 part-time and full-time H-E-B partners as part of the grocery retailer’s ecommerce team.

H-E-B also said that the new fulfillment center will:

  • Help support the rising demand for online shopping
  • Stock goods found in stores to fulfill curbside and home delivery orders
  • Create less aisle congestion and better product availability for in-store shoppers
  • Streamline processes and boost productivity with various forms of automation

According to state filings, the grocer spent approximately $14.5 million on the construction project.

With these centers, H-E-B said that it has grown its curbside and home delivery services, which are now available at more than 270 stores in Texas.
